Just because you don’t think they are worth talking to, doesn’t mean they think that.ĥ. Don’t introduce an NPC unless you are prepared for them to have dialog with your players. That doesn’t make a good experience for anyone.Ĥ. They get an image in their head of what the game will be like, and they try to force the game to play out that way at the cost of player agency. I know that sounds obvious but it’s a mistake a lot of DMs make without even realizing they’re doing it. Make them roll for it if applicable, but don’t straight-up deny them. Whenever your players say they want to do something, unless it’s actively breaking the rules, your answer should always be yes.

Create a story cooperatively with your players through the interplay of their agency in the world and the desires of the world you have made.ģ. Instead, create characters of your own to populate the world, and give them their own goals to work toward. Your players are not characters you can inflict your pre written story on.
